Welcome to St Mary MacKillop College Canberra in 2013!
Welcome to our College Website. It belongs to Canberra’s largest secondary school, welcoming the children of families from Canberra’s Tuggeranong Valley, Woden, Weston Creek, Queanbeyan, and Jerrabomberra.
It is my pleasure to welcome the College to the 2013 Academic Year. Rested from a warm summer break I am happy to say that 125 teachers and support staff will have 15 new colleagues joining them, with 418 new students joining the College this year.
Last year ended well, with stellar Year 12 Certificate results – 86% of our cohort achieved an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank of 65 or more, the third best achieving school in the ACT. Our College Dux, Parker Blakey, achieved a result of 99.10 and all students wishing to go to university gained entry – almost all to the course of their first choice.
Along with these results, many students have gone on to CIT and apprenticeship, most of them benefiting from industry experience and study at the College’s Trades Training Centre.
These kinds of results for a non-selective, low fee charging, big school are the product of:
St Mary MacKillop College takes its foundation, ethos, and inspiration from our patron St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, canonised as Australia’s first saint in 2010. As such, we aim to be a Catholic school for all, respectful of difference, welcoming of all who seek to add to our community, and a school that is able to have all different kinds of people, ideas, talents, and interests fostered by our care.
This school is a place of spirit, energy, expectation, hope, and considerable good humour. I hope you enjoy browsing our website and welcome your interest in our school.
As the city celebrates its centenary, its largest school is ambitious for a year of challenge and achievement.
Yours in St Mary MacKillop,
Mr Michael Lee
