Water House wins in wet conditions

Congratulations to the students of Ngadyung (Water House), who ran, jumped, and threw their way to both the Championship and Spirit Cups at the Athletics Carnival at the Australian Institute of Sport.

A late surge brought Ngadyung the silverware, after Meup Meup (Championship) and Gurabang (Spirit) led at the halfway mark.

The event was typical of a MacKillop sports carnival, with students participating in competitive track and field events and novelty events like the tug o' war and fun run, despite the wet conditions.

The rain did not dampen the students' spirits as those who did not compete cheered for their peers from the stands.

The Athletics Carnival was the first competitive event to include the singing of the new House Songs, which were created this year to add to the spirit of the carnival.

At the end of the day, the song of Ngadyung played as Principal Mr Lee presented House Captains Kieran Jones and Raili Koskinen with the Championship and Spirit Cups.

Congratulations on a fantastic day, MacKillop!

Acknowledgement of Country

St Mary of the Cross MacKillop made the statement: “We are but travellers here, so while we are here we should do as much good as we can and live in peace with each other.”

With this in mind, the College respectfully acknowledges the Ngunnawal people who are the Traditional Custodians and First People of the land on which we gather each day. The College also pays its respects to the Elders past, present and emerging, and any other Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples living and working in the MacKillop community.
