Music & Performance Programs

CareersWeb2

In addition to the Performing Arts curriculum at MacKillop, the College has a number of extra-curricular programs for students, including in-school tuition, a wide range of ensembles, dance groups, the Musical, and Drama Club.

College Musical
The College produces a musical each year, with performances taking place in Term 3. Auditions for the musical are held early in the year and are open to students in Years 7-12.

Instrumental tuition
Students can participate in an in-school instrumental tuition program through the College. This is available for a wide range of instruments. If you would like further information or would like to take part in the program, please speak with Ms Boulton or Mr South.

Ensemble Program
We have a range of extra-curricular ensembles for students, including choirs, concert bands, string ensembles, a guitar ensemble, and the wind ensemble.

Times for rehearsals can be found in the College Newsletter or on signage around the school. For more information, please speak with Ms Boulton or Mr South.

MacKillop Music Academy
The MacKillop Music Academy is for students in Years 5 and 6 at the Catholic primary schools. It takes place one night per week during the school term and gives the primary school students the opportunity to learn an orchestral string instrument or wind instrument.

Dance
Our extra-curricular dance groups are Dance Company, a contemporary and lyrical dance group, and Dance Crew, which focuses on Hip Hop.

For more information about dance, please speak with Mrs van Doorn.

Drama & Acting
The College currently has two extra-curricular acting groups: Dance Club, an improvisation group, and Drama Production, which puts on a play twice per year.

For more information about drama/acting opportunities, please speak with Mrs van Doorn.

Other opportunities to perform or support
There are regular opportunities for students to perform at campus assemblies, information evenings, or at the annual Variety Night or Gala Concert events.

Students have the opportunity to test out their jokes and wit at the Canberra Comedy Festival. The Unedjamacated show is made up of staff and students from the College but this is not an 'official' MacKillop performance. Mr Jeremy Margosis is the contact teacher for Unedjamacated.

The College also has a sound and lighting crew at each campus. These crews help to setup and run assemblies, performances, and events.

More information
Students should look out for performing arts opportunities through Student Messages, the Newsletter, on Canvas, or on the School Noticeboard:

Acknowledgement of Country

St Mary of the Cross MacKillop made the statement: “We are but travellers here, so while we are here we should do as much good as we can and live in peace with each other.”

With this in mind, the College respectfully acknowledges the Ngunnawal people who are the Traditional Custodians and First People of the land on which we gather each day. The College also pays its respects to the Elders past, present and emerging, and any other Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples living and working in the MacKillop community.
