Sporting Opportunities

CareersWeb2

The College has a huge range of sporting opportunities for students.

The College competes in interschool competitions that generally take the format of a one-day gala style event.  Students participate in the age groups of Years 7/8, Years 9/10 and College in numerous sports throughout the year. We are a member of the Associated Southern Colleges (ASC) and compete against the other Catholic and Independent Colleges in Canberra.  We also participate in the ACT Secondary School Sport competitions that are open to all secondary schools in the Territory.

The two biggest events on the sports calendar are the Swimming and Athletics carnivals, while we also have a Cross-Country event on each campus. These are followed by ASC/ACT events.

Students will be informed about sporting opportunities via student messages in their Pastoral Care Class and the schedule of sports throughout the year will be available on Canvas.

The College Newsletter includes articles written by staff and students as well as photographs of teams in action.  This is an opportunity for students to be recognised for their contributions to the sporting life of the College.

We believe that students who attend St Mary MacKillop College should compete in weekend sport in their local areas and teams enabling them to develop and strengthen relationships with adolescents of their own age in their community.

Acknowledgement of Country

St Mary of the Cross MacKillop made the statement: “We are but travellers here, so while we are here we should do as much good as we can and live in peace with each other.”

With this in mind, the College respectfully acknowledges the Ngunnawal people who are the Traditional Custodians and First People of the land on which we gather each day. The College also pays its respects to the Elders past, present and emerging, and any other Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples living and working in the MacKillop community.
