Choir makes National Grand Final

Congratulations to the MacKillop A Cappella Choir, which finished in the Top 8 schools at the AUSACA Australian A Cappella Championships, held at RMIT in Melbourne on 15 September.

Under the guidance of Mrs Kim Maloney, the choir performed four songs at the Semi-Final stage, finishing in second place on the audience vote and qualifying for the Grand Final later that day.

The choir performed Siyahamba, Bluebird, This little light, and California Dreamin'. In the Grand Final, they added the popular Miley Cyrus song, The climb, to their repertoire.

During their stay in Melbourne, the choir participated in workshops with a number of a cappella professionals.

MacKillop's road to the Grand Final began in May, when the choir filmed a performance of The Irish Blessing and entered it into the competition. After this clip was selected for the Video Finals, judges and voters deemed the choir worthy of a place in the Live Finals in the Secondary School Division.

Whilst the A Cappella Choir did not go on to win the competition, their qualification for the Grand Final is indeed worthy of much celebration and praise. The choir regularly sings its way into the hearts of the College community and did so again in Melbourne.

The championships were held as part of Vocal Australia’s GET VOCAL Festival, which featured a variety of events including performances, competitions, master classes, professional development, and workshops.

Congratulations to Mrs Maloney and the students for their tremendous achievements!
