An incredible experience
Students and staff have returned safely from their study tour of Greece and Italy, which took place over three weeks in September and October.
Nishchal Divi of Year 12 wrote about the students’ time away:
Our school recently went on an incredible tour of Greece and Italy, with 25 students and five staff members making the trip.
After a long, 30-hour journey starting at the St Peter’s Campus, we landed in Athens and spent three nights exploring the city, enjoying delicious food, visiting museums, archaeological sites, and the Parthenon. We then travelled to Delphi, Olympia, and back to Athens, experiencing local street performances and ancient ruins.
Next, we flew to Naples and travelled to Sorrento, where highlights included visiting Pompeii and a private gelato-making class. In Rome, we toured the Colosseum, Piazza Venezia, Vatican City, the Sistine Chapel, and St Peter’s Basilica, finishing with a walk past famous landmarks like the Trevi Fountain. We spent two nights in Florence, exploring museums, the Medici palace, and attending a leather-making class.
Our final stop was Padua, where we stayed with host families and truly connected with them, sharing experiences, learning about Italian daily life, and forming lasting friendships, as well as giving them a taste of Australia through a Vegemite sandwiches and Tim Tam slams.
We also visited Venice and Verona, enjoyed authentic Italian dinners, and felt warmly welcomed by our sister school, Liceo Scientifico Statale Enrico Fermi. Attending classes there and engaging with the students and teachers made the trip unforgettable.
After bittersweet goodbyes, we flew back home, completing another 30-hour journey to reunite with our families. It was a once in a lifetime experience where we formed friendships and bonds with our hosts, our teachers, and with each other, gaining experience, knowledge and memories we will cherish forever.
A big thank you goes to our teachers, whose guidance and support made this amazing journey possible, and to Mr Peter Johnson, who led the organisation of the study tour.
