MacKillop Day 2016

Wet conditions didn't dampen spirits as the College celebrated the Feast Day of its patron, St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, with the annual MacKillop Day Mass and Activities on Friday 9 September.

The day commenced with Mass at the Tuggeranong Basketball Stadium - one of the few venues large enough to hold our students, staff, and visitors - and concluded with a range of fun activities and stalls at the Isabella Campus.

The Mass was a moving occasion, with the College Choir creating a reflective and reverent mood and Fr Luke from the Corpus Christi Parish delivering an engaging homily.

The activities at the Isabella Campus were festive, with activities like bumper balls, skill games, live music, and a wide range of food and drink. The wet weather caused the cancellation of the Jumping Castle - one of the most popular attractions on MacKillop Day - but it failed to dampen spirits with high levels of participation despite the conditions.

All students are to be congratulated on their participation, dignity, reverence, and the spirited sense of community, which helped to make MacKillop Day a fantastic celebration of the Feast of our patron, St Mary MacKillop.

The College thanks Fr Luke and Deacon Vince Barclay for their important contribution in concelebrating the Mass, as well as all the staff involved in the organisation of the event. The College also thanks the many visitors, including students and teachers from other schools, parents, and past students of the College who joined us for the Mass.

Acknowledgement of Country

St Mary of the Cross MacKillop made the statement: “We are but travellers here, so while we are here we should do as much good as we can and live in peace with each other.”

With this in mind, the College respectfully acknowledges the Ngunnawal people who are the Traditional Custodians and First People of the land on which we gather each day. The College also pays its respects to the Elders past, present and emerging, and any other Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples living and working in the MacKillop community.
