MacKillop Day 2025

Mr Lee's last MacKillop Day

The College held its annual MacKillop Day celebrations on Friday 12 September to commemorate the Feast Day of our patron, St Mary of the Cross MacKillop.

After changing up the format of the day for the Silver Jubilee in 2023, the College returned to its traditional arrangement for MacKillop Day, with the Feast Day Mass in the morning followed by an afternoon of activities.

Held at the Tuggeranong Basketball Stadium, the Mass was celebrated by College Chaplain Fr Simon Falk and his assistant at Corpus Christi Parish, Fr Mark Ha. It was a moving occasion, with the College Chamber Choir helping to create a reflective, reverent, and celebratory mood.

With it being the final time the whole school would be together in 2025, the College Captains made a special presentation at the end of the Mass to honour and thank Principal Michael Lee for his 18 years of service to the College before he departs at the end of 2025.

In the afternoon, students were able to enjoy the beautiful spring weather as they went back to the St Peter’s Campus for the MacKillop Day celebrations. There were activities like the obstacle course, horizontal bungee, face painting, sumo wrestling, carnival games, upbeat music, and a wide range of food and drink. There was also a display of entries for the INSPIRE Art Competition and the running of the MacKillop Gift to determine the fastest sprinters at the College.

Following the activities, students went back to their PC classes to take part in a Campus Quiz.

Congratulations to all students for bringing such a positive energy to the occasion, as well as the many staff who planned and prepared for the day.

Acknowledgement of Country

St Mary of the Cross MacKillop made the statement: “We are but travellers here, so while we are here we should do as much good as we can and live in peace with each other.”

With this in mind, the College respectfully acknowledges the Ngunnawal people who are the Traditional Custodians and First People of the land on which we gather each day. The College also pays its respects to the Elders past, present and emerging, and any other Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples living and working in the MacKillop community.
