Congratulations to our Junior Girls’ Aussie Rules team for winning the 2023 AFL NSW/ACT Junior School Cup on Wednesday 18 October.
Having qualified for the state finals by winning the ACT competition earlier this year, both our boys’ and girls’ teams made the long journey to the Central Coast Sporting Complex in Tuggerah to compete against teams from all over NSW.
After coming so close to winning the same competition in 2022, our girls were able to go one step further this year, finishing the day on top of the league to become NSW and ACT champions.
The format for the boys’ competition was slightly different, with two pools and a grand final. Unfortunately, despite a strong performance on the day, they were unable to finish in the top two teams in order to battle it out for the major prize.
Nevertheless, the support both teams showed for each other over the course of the competition was amazing, and the boys played their part in helping our girls finish as champions.
Congratulations to the students and their coaches on this remarkable achievement and thanks to the parents/carers who accompanied the teams on the trip.
MacKillop would also like to thank the GWS Giants for generously providing our students with a training session and tour of GWS Training Facility in Sydney during a pit stop on the way to the Central Coast.

St Mary of the Cross MacKillop made the statement: “We are but travellers here, so while we are here we should do as much good as we can and live in peace with each other.”
With this in mind, the College respectfully acknowledges the Ngunnawal people who are the Traditional Custodians and First People of the land on which we gather each day. The College also pays its respects to the Elders past, present and emerging, and any other Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples living and working in the MacKillop community.
