Swimming Carnival 2024

Meup Meup 'on fire' in the pool

Meup Meup dominated the 2024 College Swimming Carnival, taking out both trophies at the Dickson Aquatic Centre on Thursday 29 February.

Meup Meup performed strongly in the pool to win its third Championship Trophy in a row, while their enthusiasm and participation throughout the day helped them hold off Gurabang in the battle for the Spirit Cup.

Students from all four Houses did their best to get involved from the outset, with the energetic chanting of the House songs setting the tone for a great day at the pool.

There was a lot of colour in the stands, with a huge range of costumes on show as students dressed to impress according the ‘occupations’ theme.

As students competed in the pool, others cheered them on, participated in novelty events, or made donations to Caritas in order to hang out in the baby pool.

Just before the final relays, the annual ‘MacKillop Marlin’ event was held, with Karen O’Connor of Year 9 and Alexander Murray of Year 12 taking the honours after two hotly-contested races.

Students are to be congratulated for their teamwork, spirit, high levels of participation, and their displays of athleticism, which contributed to an enjoyable day for all.

Thank you to the staff – especially the Sports Facilitator, Mrs Romina Schofield – who played a crucial role in the carnival’s success.

St Mary of the Cross MacKillop made the statement: “We are but travellers here, so while we are here we should do as much good as we can and live in peace with each other.”

With this in mind, the College respectfully acknowledges the Ngunnawal people who are the Traditional Custodians and First People of the land on which we gather each day. The College also pays its respects to the Elders past, present and emerging, and any other Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples living and working in the MacKillop community.
