The College’s Year 11 students have participated in the Gift of Life Walk to highlight the importance of organ and tissue donation.
Well over half of the students from the Year 11 cohort stayed back after school on Friday 23 May to complete an hour-long walk and to promote DonateLife’s call for people to register as organ donors.
Due to the wet weather on the day, students walked a modified course from the St Peter’s Campus basketball courts up to the gymnasium. There were good vibes with music, soft drinks, photobooths, and a range of props for photos.
The students promoted the idea of organ donation by sharing content on their social media accounts and they were also encouraged to have conversations with their families about registering as donors through www.donatelife.gov.au. The students also took away merchandise that they can wear to help spread the message.
The Gift of Life walk has become a tradition for the students of Year 11 in recent years.
The walk is organised by Gift of Life Incorporated in conjunction with DonateLife and the Government’s Organ and Tissue Authority. It aims to promote greater community awareness of the importance of organ and tissue donation and transplantation by sharing the ‘Discover, Decide, Discuss’ strategy:
Congratulations to the students of Year 11 for participating in the walk and for helping to spread the message!

St Mary of the Cross MacKillop made the statement: “We are but travellers here, so while we are here we should do as much good as we can and live in peace with each other.”
With this in mind, the College respectfully acknowledges the Ngunnawal people who are the Traditional Custodians and First People of the land on which we gather each day. The College also pays its respects to the Elders past, present and emerging, and any other Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples living and working in the MacKillop community.
