End of Term 2 events

Camps and Pastoral Events

Students have had a positive finish to the semester, with a range of pastoral events and trips away in the last two weeks of Term 2.

With assessment complete and senior students commencing their holidays, the College arranged a number of activities for students in Years 7 to 10 to see out the term.

In Week 19, Year 7 headed to Collaroy for the Year 7 Camp. At camp, students took part in a selection of physical and mental challenges, which gave them the opportunity to work on their teamwork, confidence, leadership, and friendships. These activities included vertical challenges, high ropes, the giant swing, archery, and much more.

While Year 7 were at camp, Year 8 participated in a two-day program of activities, which included challenges led by Coastlife, a visit from the Museum of Australian Democracy, a CPR presentation by ACTWELL, and a charity donation drive for the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal.

Year 9 students visited the St Peter’s Campus for two days, where they took part in the YLead Program and a transition day to prepare for their move to Isabella Plains in 2023.

In Week 20, Year 8 students visited Collaroy to make up for missing their Year 7 Camp in 2021 due to COVID restrictions.

Year 10 also visited Sydney in Week 20 to participate in the Urban Challenge, a fast-paced unfolding adventure through Sydney, which consisted of a range of fun and engaging team activities along the way. The Urban Challenge also involved participation in the ‘Kids Giving Back’ initiative, which required the students to put together nutritious meals for people experiencing homelessness and food scarcity. Back at school, Year 10 also took part in a Reflection Day and Course Counselling to prepare for senior studies.

Congratulations to all students for bringing a positive attitude to these activities and for making the most of the opportunities at their disposal. Thank you to the many teachers who gave up personal time to spend time away in Sydney.

It was certainly a busy end to Term 2!

Acknowledgement of Country

St Mary of the Cross MacKillop made the statement: “We are but travellers here, so while we are here we should do as much good as we can and live in peace with each other.”

With this in mind, the College respectfully acknowledges the Ngunnawal people who are the Traditional Custodians and First People of the land on which we gather each day. The College also pays its respects to the Elders past, present and emerging, and any other Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples living and working in the MacKillop community.
