High School Musical makes history

Show sells out before opening night

Congratulations to the cast and crew of the College's 2026 production of High School Musical for delivering four stellar performances in Week 4 of Term 3.

The show was the first in MacKillop history to sell out prior to the opening night, with more than 1,300 guests filling the St Peter’s Campus Performing Arts Centre across the four performances.

MacKillop's production of High School Musical featured a talented principal cast, a large ensemble, skilled dancers and singers, creative lighting and sound technicians, and an enthusiastic backstage crew.

Students were led by the College’s Coordinator of Performance, Ms Charlotte Gearside, who directed and choreographed the production, and Mr Harry Hattch, who coordinated the technical aspects of the musical. A team of staff members and students also assisted with production support, costume design, props and sets, front of house, and event promotion.

The stage version of High School Musical is based on the smash hit Disney movie, which celebrated the 20th anniversary of its release this year. The story centres on the blossoming relationship between Troy, a high school jock, and Gabriella, the new smart girl at school. Together, with the students of East High, they must explore issues of first love, identity, friendship, family, acceptance, and not sticking to the status quo!

Audiences agreed that the cast and crew did a tremendous job bringing this story to life, making High School Musical another standout in the long tradition of performing arts success at MacKillop.

Congratulations and thank you to everyone involved in the production for their months of hard work and dedication. Thank you also to the large crowds who supported the show throughout the week. It's always wonderful to see the wider community enjoying and celebrating the talents of our staff and students!
