Legally Blonde Jr

Congratulations to the cast and crew of the College Musical, Legally Blonde Jr, which was held at the Wanniassa Campus Theatrette over five nights from 17-21 August.

It was the first musical MacKillop has presented over five nights following the success of past musicals Seussical, Mulan, and the Addams Family, and the performance of Legally Blonde lived up to the expectations set by those productions, with two nights completely sold out and large audiences in attendance throughout the week.

Congratulations to Mrs Bronwyn McKenzie and her team of staff and students who produced a College musical of a very high standard. The cast and crew received widespread praise for the talent, energy, and enthusiasm they brought to perform the Legally Blonde with skill, humour, and engagement.

Theatre at MacKillop has enjoyed real success and recognition in terms of awards and accolades. This points to a body of talent and skill that underpins the theatrical experience for the students. It's delightful to see the MacKillop community enjoying the success of this talent and energy again this year.

We've selected a few of our favourite photos from the musical, which can be seen in the gallery on the right.

The Story:
Legally Blonde Jr follows the story of Elle Woods, who heads off to Harvard Law School in pursuit of her ex-boyfriend, Warner. During her first class, Elle discovers that Warner has begun dating Vivienne, a fellow classmate. Over the course of her journey, Elle makes new friends in Emmett, the teacher's assistant, and Paulette, her hairdresser, while having the support of her former UCLA sorority sisters, the Delta Nus. Emmett tells Elle how hard he has worked to be where he is and he suggests she does the same, so Elle steps up her game and uses her newfound confidence to help Paulette with a legal matter. Elle lands a spot on her teacher Callahan's legal team to defend fitness guru Brooke Wyndham in a murder trial. As Brooke is a former Delta Nu, Elle gains her trust and this results in Brooke firing Callahan and employing Elle and Emmett to take over her defence. Elle uses her knowledge in beauty and fashion to trick Brooke's stepdaughter into confessing to the murder. Elle's win leads Warner to propose to her, but she realises she now loves Emmett, who believed in her all along. Three years later, Elle proposes to Emmett as she finishes top of her class.
