Year 12 aims to beat Relay record

Year 12 sets ambitious target

Year 12 students have commenced fundraising for Cancer Council’s Relay for Life with the ambitious target of beating last year's record of $73,904.

After just a few weeks of fundraising, students have already raised well over $20,000, but they still have more work to do if they hope to beat the College record, which was set last year by the Class of 2023.

The Year 12 Coordinators, Mrs Jane Cunneen and Mr Matthew Crowe, challenged every Year 12 student to raise $286 each, which equates to a dollar for every member in their cohort. If each student is able to meet that challenge, the Class of 2024 will set a new College record for the relay.

For the relay itself, MacKillop will participate in the Relay Your Way version of the event with a 12-hour walk here at the College on Saturday 6 April.

On 23 February, several Year 12 students met with members of Cancer Council ACT and Canberra Weekly to discuss their plans for the upcoming Relay.

When asked why supporting the Relay was important to the students of Year 12, Faith and Community Captain Tadhg Meade said it was an opportunity to support those in the community who are affected by cancer.

“We all just love each other in the MacKillop community so much, so to see some people who are affected by it, it encourages us to try and help us much as we can,” Tadhg said.
