Athletics Carnival 2023

Meup Meup and Gurabang emerge victorious

Meup Meup and Gurabang were the winners of MacKillop’s 90s-themed Athletics Carnival at the AIS on Thursday 9 March.

Fresh off its victory at the recent Swimming Carnival, Meup Meup’s triumph on the track earnt the House its fifth Athletics Championship, while Gurabang’s Spirit Cup success was its first such win since 2012.

The warm autumn weather did not deter students from getting involved, with massive participation, relentless spirit in the stands, and displays of great athleticism on the track and in the field.

The 90s theme for the carnival saw students dressed in an array of outfits and costumes in support of their House. The high level of enthusiasm from all four Houses meant that the battle for the Spirit Cup went down to the wire.

Gurabang signalled its intent early, starting the morning off strongly with the singing of its House chant along with the signature ‘Viking Clap’. Despite Meup Meup looking like it could run away with both trophies, Gurabang’s willingness to cheer and to get involved in events and novelties helped it to victory by just two points.

The Championship Trophy was not so close, with Meup Meup leading the carnival from start to finish.

The carnival was an enjoyable event for all involved, thanks mainly to the organisational skills of Mrs Romina Schofield and her team of staff and students.

Congratulations to all students for their high levels of participation and demonstrations of athletic prowess that made the carnival a huge success.
