MacKillop's Year 7-9 boys' AFL team took out the NSW AFL Junior Schools Cup in Week 13, while the 7-9 girls' team also made the grand final but were unable to defend their title.
The College Sports Facilitator, Mrs Romina Schofield, compiled the following report:
The highlight of the Sporting calendar finally arrived last week: the NSW Junior Schools Cup (JSC) AFL finals! The 7-9 boys’ and girls’ teams travelled to Tuggarah, NSW to compete against the best teams around NSW. Both teams were extremely strong during the round games and played with determination and teamwork to progress to the grand finals.
With both grand finals being played at the same time, the teams weren’t able to utilise the MacKillop cheer squad, so they leaned on their coaches and teammates to inspire and motivate each other. Both games were extremely close, but unfortunately, our girls’ team lost by a single point in the final minute of the game. Congratulations to Bethany Heron who was named Best on Field for the grand final match, a huge achievement given it usually gets awarded to a member of the winning team.
Our boys’ team fought hard the entire match to become the NSW JSC AFL Champions, with Will Macleod named Best on Field – congratulations! Thank you to Mr Anderson, Mr Crowther, Ms Sliwinski and Ms Greenacre for assisting with this excursion.

With this in mind, the College respectfully acknowledges the Ngunnawal people who are the Traditional Custodians and First People of the land on which we gather each day. The College also pays its respects to the Elders past, present and emerging, and any other Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples living and working in the MacKillop community.
