Year 12 Retreat

Three days in Collaroy

The Class of 2022 commenced their final semester at St Mary MacKillop College with the Year 12 Retreat, where they spent three days along Sydney's northern beaches.

The retreat took place at the Collaroy Centre, where students utilised the getaway to reflect on their time at MacKillop and to prepare for life after graduating. It also provided students with a warm and relaxing location to revitalise and motivate them for what could be their most important semester at the College.

This was the first Year 12 Retreat that was held in Sydney since 2019, with COVID restricting interstate travel over the past two years.

The highlight of the retreat for students was the range of teambuilding activities that brought an added unity to the Class of 2022. One activity presented students the opportunity to write messages to other members of the cohort, and another required students to go around in a circle and explain what they admired in each member of their pastoral class. These activities brought the cohort closer than ever before.

The Year 12 Retreat also involved a Mass, presentations from Mr Lee and Ms Sullivan, an enjoyable few hours on the beach, an array of games, and a disco night. Throughout the entirety of the retreat, the students of Year 12 participated with enthusiasm, cooperation, and dignity – setting all students up to end 2022 and their final year at MacKillop on a high.

The College thanks and congratulates Ms Leonie Sullivan, the Year 12 Coordinator, for the organisation and running of the retreat, as well as her Year 12 Pastoral team.

Acknowledgement of Country

St Mary of the Cross MacKillop made the statement: “We are but travellers here, so while we are here we should do as much good as we can and live in peace with each other.”

With this in mind, the College respectfully acknowledges the Ngunnawal people who are the Traditional Custodians and First People of the land on which we gather each day. The College also pays its respects to the Elders past, present and emerging, and any other Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples living and working in the MacKillop community.
